Markus Frantz completed an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic for equipment and precision engineering with Deutsche Aerospace AG in Ottobrunn near Munich, now part of Airbus Group SE. He then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, specializing in aeronautics and space technology, and graduated with a German Diplom in engineering in 2003.

Mr. Frantz joined our firm in 2003. He became a German patent attorney and a European trademark and design attorney in 2007, and a European patent attorney in 2008. In addition to practicing at our firm, Mr. Frantz headed the patent department of a Swiss industrial company for one year. Mr. Frantz became a partner in 2012.

Markus Frantz considers it vital to his work to develop an in-depth understanding of his clients’ needs, in particular with regard to a product for which protection is sought and its specific technical features. This serves as his basis for successfully conducting proceedings, including for example complex opposition proceedings, before the European Patent Office and the German Patent and Trademark Office, for example in the field of precision engineering. Mr. Frantz is particularly well-versed in the area of law concerning employees’ inventions, an area in which he has secured an out-of-court settlement with the opposing side in close concert with the client. His focus is on unrelentingly advocating the interests of the clients he represents, in order to provide sustainable representation to clients in their dealings with the Offices, courts and third parties.
