Johann Bauer studied law at the University of Regensburg, where he received his doctorate in 1994 for a thesis dealing with German, European and U.S. merger control law. Following his judicial service training at the District Court of Regensburg and a six-month internship at a U.S. law firm in San Francisco, California, he completed his judicial education by passing the second State Bar Examination in 1993. In the same year, he was called to the bar.

In 2007, Dr. Bauer was awarded the title of certified lawyer for IP matters.

Dr. Bauer advises and represents domestic and international clients in all matters of intellectual property law. In addition to infringement litigation in patent, trademark and design matters, he also represents clients in proceedings before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the European Court of Justice relating to registering and defending trademarks and designs. Another focus of his work is advising industrial companies on R&D joint projects and license agreements. Dr. Bauer became a partner of the firm in 2015.
