Gerd L. Koepe studied Chemistry and Microeconomics at the University Freiburg/Breisgau, specializing in Biochemistry and Organometallic Chemistry. He acquired scientific and industrial experience in Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis from 1979 to 1982 at the Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research in Muelheim/Ruhr, before he entered into the training as a Patent Attorney, including working at the Lower Regional Court in Düsseldorf, Court for IP Infringement Matters, passing the Patent Attorney’s examination in 1986.
Gerd Koepe is a Patent Attorney since 1987 and is admitted as a representative before the European Patent Office (EPO) since 1989. Gerd Koepe is also admitted as a representative before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Union Trademark and Union Design matters since its foundation in 1996.
From 2000 to 2014, Gerd Koepe was a partner to the Patent Law Firm Koepe & Partner, Munich. During these years, Gerd Koepe was (and still is) Lecturer for Intellectual Property at the Universities Freiburg/Breisgau and Strassbourg.
In the years 2003 to 2005, Gerd Koepe qualified as a Master of Laws (LL. M.) in the field of European Intellectual Property.
Since 2014, Gerd Koepe advises the Patent Law Firm SSM Schwabe Sandmair Marx in all fields of Intellectual Property, especially concerning proceedings of substantive examination and grant, validity and infringement of German and European Patents, Trademarks and Designs. Gerd Koepe puts particular emphasis on strategic aspects of Intellectual Property Protection, specifically considering a local and global activity of the enterprises and inventors seeking advice.
